BDQ Beer Co. Catalogue

Project Details

The BDQ Beer Co. is a micro-brewery based in the Aude, France. The owners were working on their customer engagement and needed a way to generate a catalogue that could be easily updated and sent to their “pro” customers (distributors and stockists). The catalogue needed to reflect their strong brand image and be generated regularly to reflect latest stock and pricing information.

The procedure was initially designed around a single pricing structure but the client then requested four pricing variations with links back to the relevant pages of their website (separate pages for each pricing variation) and contact information.

Their designer generated a layout template using Adobe InDesign that we then used as the basis for a data merge workflow from an Excel source file.

The sales manager maintained the Excel sheet and, when ready to genreate the new catalogue, ran the built-in macro to generate four CSV files, one for each pricing model.

Then, to built the catalogue, they ran the data merge process from within in InDesign to create four separate PDF files that could then be uploaded to the company’s Wix website.

An example of the generic catalogue, posted to the company website can be downloaded here.

The outputs from this project included:

  • A master Excel file with a macro for generating the CSV files;
  • An InDesign template file setup with a front and back cover and data merge pages;
  • A video showing how to update the spreadsheet and generate the catalogues;
  • Written procedures for generating the catalogue files and uploading them to the website.
